Setting yourself up with a student loan
26 June 2008
Not every student wants to live poor, and a student loan can sometimes help you to avoid this. Some people are good at saving, while others can only save money that they are obligated to keep for repaying loans and covering vital expenses. If you are the latter and have a reasonable amount of spare income that is usually spent on whatever takes your fancy, then a student loan could be useful.
Intended to save for a new television or some furniture for your place? A student loan can provide you with them now, while requiring you to repay the amount over time. If you are generally responsible but find saving difficult, then a student loan used in this way should not harm your finances. You can essentially think of it as spending your savings ahead of time as an incentive to making the effort.
